VEEDERSBURG — James Richard Hughes III, 37, 506 W. Bonebrake Road, Veedersburg, died peacefully in his sleep at his home Wednesday morning, March 8, 2000. He was born Oct. 30, 1962 in Mt. Home, Idaho. He married Michele T. Brown May 2, 1992 in Crawfordsville. He was known by “Big Jim” by his friends. He graduated from Fountain Central High School in 1981 where he excelled in football. He had been a resident of the Veedersburg community all his life. He was a heavy equipment operator before becoming disabled by cancer. He loved fishing, camping, gardening, heavy equipment, music, playing cards, cooking, canoeing, hunting mushrooms and his family. He was a member of the Kingman Christian Church and the Sons of the American Legion. He and the family were supported during his final days by the loving, caring personnel of the Family Hospice of West Central Indiana. Survivors, besides the wife, include: a son, Cory and a daughter, Kendall, both of Veedersburg; his mother, Janet Flint and step father Al Flint, Veedersburg; his father, James R. Hughes and step mother Barbara Hughes, Harrison, Ark.; three brothers, Scott Hughes, Kansas City, Mo., Todd Hughes, Kingman and David Hughes, Harrison, Ark.; two sisters, Kathie Lutchka and Karen O'Connor, both of Danville, Ill.; his paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Dorothy Foster, Edinburg, Texas; his devoted mother-in-law, Alfreda Olsen, Addison, Ill.; his father-in-law, Ray and June Stacy, Chicago, Ill.; and a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and loving friends. Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Church of the Nazarene, Hillsboro, with the Revs. Steve Hays and Greg McDonald officiating. Burial was in Rockfield Cemetery, Veedersburg. Dickerson Funeral Home, Veedersburg, was in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to a fund to assist in the final medical expenses and future education of the children. This fund has been established at the CentreBank, Veedersburg. – jlr
